Review of performance on the 18th November 2017
Carla took us all on a reflective, meditative journey.
She commenced by talking a little about her Celtic harp, its construction and the difference between that and the peddle harp. The journey commenced with a recognition of welcome to country and the playing of an ancient Irish tune written by the blind Irish Harper Turlough O’Carolan, “ O’Carolan’s Welcome.
There followed the tune “ Bygone Days" to prepare us for the “Aaron Boat Song”, the boat that took us through the “Cross Currents”. We saw the “Silkie” the seal that changes from seal to human by discarding its skin. Then we heard the tune “Seal Lullaby” which had been preceded by the poem of the same name by Rudyard Kipling.
We reached land where we reflected on the ”Wisdom of Trees” and were reminded of the words of Joyce Kilmer, a 19 year old who died in WW1.
Upon reaching the land we visited the home of “John Irwin” for whom O’Carolan had written the Planxty [tune].
Finally we heard the story of the Irish farmer who was tricked by a leprechaun and were told that this is the reason the Irish are wanting to go “Somewhere over the Rainbow” to find that elusive pot of gold.
